Exchanging data and increasing statistical cooperation..Abu Dhabi Chamber signs MoU with Statistic Centre – Abu Dhabi

Within their endeavor to increase cooperation in the field of statistics, the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Statistic Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the approaches of the Abu Dhabi government in developing a comprehensive and sustainable statistics system that meets the demands of policy makers, business community and the public for reliable and accurate statistics.

His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Mheiri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, signed the MoU on behalf of the Chamber, whereas Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Acting Director General of SCAD signed the MoU on behalf of his establishment.

His Excellency Mohamed Helal Al Mheiri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, said that signing the MoU comes within the awareness of the Chamber to strengthen its strategic relationships with the different public and private entities in the emirate, especially with the Statistics Centre since that would support the joint governmental work and develop the methods of exchanging data. “The new MoU will help us realize statistical integration, meet the demands of both sides, support development plans, and develop specialized systems designed specifically for the information and data of the business community and the private sector in the emirate,” he said.

For his part, Abdullah Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Acting Director-General of the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD), said: “The MOU signed with Abu Dhabi Chamber comes in line with SCAD’s objective to bolster relations with its strategic partners in the government sector, improve statistical work and boost statistical capacities in the emirate. At SCAD, we provide reliable and up-to-date statistics to decision-makers and the business sector, in order to guide the development of policies, and devise current and future development plans and programmes for Abu Dhabi.”

Al Suwaidi added: “We will continue to work with our partners in the public and private sectors to increase statistical capacity in Abu Dhabi, and build a comprehensive and integrated statistical system based on the best international standards to achieve the vision of Abu Dhabi.”

The new MoU would increase the cooperation between the two sides, ensure the avoidance of double counting and will help in drafting a framework for an organized exchange of information and the reissuance of data including e-systems and schedules. The agreement will also increase the commitment to standards, enhance the quality of collected data and realize the optimum utilization of administrative registers in the emirate as well as lessening the dependence on surveys in order to lessen time and efforts and realize the optimum utilization of resources. It will also help in developing the statistical capabilities of the Abu Dhabi Chamber and provide its employees with the necessary specialized and free-of-charge training courses.
